The Delaware State University Choir has been a substantial part of the university's tradition ever since the school's inception.  DSU is one of the nation's historically black colleges and universities founded in 1891.  The University choir ranges from 40 - 60 voices per semester.  Repertoire ranges from Classical choral and sacred works to contemporary compositions in genres including jazz, gospel, and Broadway musicals;  the choir is also committed to preserving its heritage by singing Negro Spirituals and choral music by African-American composers.  The choirs perform for numerous community and university events annually.  The university choir's current director is Dr. Lloyd Mallory, Jr.  He is serving in his eighth year.  Delaware State University is committed to musical excellence.  Offered majors in music include General Music with concentrated applied instrument (voice, piano, brass wind, woodwind, percussion or string); Music Education and Music Industry.  The university celebrates it core values:  outreach, community, scholarship, diversity and integrity.  Its motto "making our mark on the world" drives these values.
